Pearls are one of world’s most precious gems. In Vedic horoscope it is one of the nine Ratnas {Precious gems}. Jewelry box owned by almost every woman has pearl jewelry; you can wear it anytime for all occasions. Pearls are not always understood by people. Why is one pearl necklace worth more than another? What is the difference between cultured pearls, fresh water pearls and natural pearls? Salt water pearls with human help are called cultured pearls and salt water pearls produced naturally in Mollusk are called natural pearls. Japan is famous for cultured pearls because the ocean temperature is suitable for mollusk to make pearls. Many countries make pearls, leading among them are China and Japan. Among the types of pearls are: 1. Salt water pearls, also known as cultured pearls or Akoya pearls 2. Tahitian pearls (black) 3. South sea pearls (white or cream) 4. Fresh water pearls, sometimes also called fresh water cultured pearls 5. Mabe pearls 6. Imitation pearls All these pearls come in various shapes, sizes and colors. Pearls prices vary from $2 to a few thousand per strand or string, depending on type, size, shape, luster, nacre and perfection. Necklace prices usually include hook or clasp and labor.
